Accredited Training

Accredited Training includes training which awards a qualification from a registered awarding body.

 

The NQAI has developed the National Framework of Qualifications which is a ten level system that incorporates awards made for all stages of learning, whether it is gained in schools, the work place, and the community, training centres, colleges or universities. On completion of an accredited childcare training programmes you should receive a qualification that fits somewhere on the National Qualification Framework. The types of accredited training available in Co. Carlow are as follows:

 

FETAC Level 5 Childcare

You must complete 8 FETAC modules to receive a full Level 5 certificate.  Some of these modules include:

  • Child Development
  • Early childhood Education
  • Caring for children 0-6
  • Working in childcare
  • Art and craft for childcare
  • Health related fitness
  • Work experience
  • Communications
  • First Aid

 

FETAC Level 6 Childcare Supervisor
This course prepares learners to work with young children in a variety of childcare settings in a supervisory / Management position.  Some of the Modules include:

  • Supervision in Childcare
  • Child Development
  • Social & Legal Issues
  • Early Childhood Programmes

 Level 6 Part-time Programme Commencing September 2009

 

Carlow Co Childcare Committee are currently working in partnership with Carlow Institute of Further Learning and FÁS to develop a highly subsidised Level 6 programme due to commence in Carlow this Autumn. Places will be limited to one per Carlow Childcare Facility and interviews may apply depending on the demand for places. Further details will be available soon.

HETAC Level 8 BA Early Childhood Care and Education

This Honors degree provides an academic and professional qualification in the care and education of young children. The programme consists of the core areas of Early Childhood Education and Care; education and play, child development, social environment, health, hygiene, nutrition and safety, communication and administration management, and personal, professional development.

Non Accredited Training

 

Carlow Co Childcare Committee organise a wide range of non accredited/in service training programmes each term. You receive a certificate of attendance for non accredited training programmes. During Spring 2009 we have provided a wide range of non accredited training programmes like Paedatric First Aid, Buntus Start, Nutrition for 1-5 year olds, Food Hygiene, Fire Safety, Cookery Demonstrations and Summer Camp Ideas.
